Human Rights

The Problem

Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. As well, human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. There are problems throughout the world, especially in developing countries where religion and race has become the primary reason behind terrorist attacks and many crimes. Many people have been discriminated based on the previous factors listed above, and still in the 21st century, human rights violations deem to be one of the biggest issues today.

The Solution

With such a big problem like human rights issues, the only way to solve this issue is education. Mostly, human rights violations are most prominent in countries where education is either only offered to men or not offered at all. If those who discriminate get educated, they will learn the social values in the world, and learn from what is right and wrong. Also, they have to learn that there is no superior race, gender, religion, language, and ethnicity over the other, and it this is achieved, there will be no doubt that we can achieve world peace.

Canadian Perspective

Our Perspective

The Charter of Human Rights and Freedom was established in Canada, so the Canadian government, law enforcement, and media take human rights issues very seriously. Nevertheless, there have been problems with human rights in Canada as well. For instance, there was an incident where soccer players in Quebec and some parts of Ontario were not allowed to compete due to the wearing of the hijab, which is mandatory in the Muslim religion, Also, there are many gender discrimination issues as well as racial issues in all parts of each province and territory. So, Canada does face human rights violation; however, the difference between Canada and other countries with people who are affected by human rights violations, Canada takes immediate action and enforces a punishment.

Obviously human rights issues have shown to be a massive problem, and we believe that many of these problems are linked with other problems on this website. Within Hampton, we are reminded of the human rights struggle each day as we traverse near the courthouse. Hampton being the home of the man who initially drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it's important to us that we realize that not all are fortunate as us. In order to solve issues of this magnitude, people must take smaller steps and find a way to educate the rest of the world so we can abolish human rights issues.
